Shufflick ("the app", "we", "us") is a movie discovery app for iOS and Android. Using it is also covered by our Terms of Service. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at contact@benleach.com.

We don't collect your contacts, precise location, or advertising identifiers. Shufflick only sees a photo from your library if you choose it as your profile photo.
"Because you liked…" rows ask TMDB for films similar to one in your library. The request goes through our servers and contains only that film's ID, never anything about you. Vibes are built from TMDB's own keywords, chosen by us. No AI is used, and no personal information goes into either.
Mutual follows are people you follow who also follow you. Each of your lists has its own setting for who can see it: only you, your mutual follows, or everyone. New lists, including Want to watch, Liked and Watched, start on mutual follows. You can change any list's setting from its menu at any time. Whoever a list is shown to can see the list and the films in it, and roll it, whether they find it through your profile or someone sends them a link to it. Your mutual follows can also see your watch history and your goal for the year. Other Shufflick users can find you by searching for your username, and see your profile photo if you add one (it is stored so that anyone with its web address can load it) and your favorite film if you pick one. That is all anyone else can see, apart from any reviews you write: never your email address, your name, your ratings, your roll history, or your streaming services. Deleting your account removes your username and profile.
If you start or accept a Blend with someone, your Want to watch list is shared with that one person, and theirs with you, for as long as the Blend lasts. It also shows films picked for you both, based on the films each of you rated highly or liked; your ratings themselves aren't shown. Films either of you has already watched are left out, so the other person can tell which of their Want to watch films you have seen. Either of you can end a Blend. Following someone shares nothing of yours on its own; if they follow you back, you become mutual follows (see above). You can see who follows you and who you follow; nobody else can see either.
If you join a movie night, your Want to watch list is shared with the people in it until it ends, six hours after it starts, or you leave (or the host removes you). As with a Blend, films anyone in the room has already watched are left out, so the others can tell which of their Want to watch films you have seen.
If you write a review of a film, every Shufflick user can read it, with your username, your photo, and the rating you gave that film. You can limit your reviews to your mutual follows in Settings. Your other ratings stay private. Other users can like your review, and you can see how many have. You can edit or delete a review at any time; deleting it makes that rating private again. Reviews can't contain links, and some offensive words are refused.
If you share one of your lists with people, or join someone else's, everyone on it can see its films, who added each one, and who is on it (their usernames and photos). Anyone on it can add and remove films; only the person who made it can rename it, delete it or invite people. You can leave a shared list at any time, and invitations can be declined.
Taste match shows another user how alike your taste is to theirs, as a percentage on your profile. It is worked out from films you have both rated or liked, only when there are at least ten, and is rounded to the nearest 5%. It never shows which films or what ratings. Because it comes from your ratings, someone determined could learn a little about them by changing their own ratings and watching the number; you can switch taste match off in Settings, which hides yours from everyone and theirs from you.
When you share a pick or your own review, Shufflick makes the picture on your phone and hands it to your phone's share sheet; you choose where it goes. A review can only be read in the app, by people signed in.
When a Shufflick link is pasted into a message or post, the app showing it can display a preview. For a film, that is its title, year and poster; for a person, their username and profile photo; for a list shown to everyone, its name, your username, how many films it has and a poster from it; for a review shown to everyone, the film and the reviewer's username, but never the review's words or rating. Nothing else ever appears in a preview: a list or review shown only to you or your mutual follows gets a plain Shufflick preview.
You can report a username, a list name, a profile photo or a review, and block anyone. Blocking hides you both from each other completely, and the other person isn't told.
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the app, and only as much as they need:
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the service.
We keep your account and library for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your account, username, profile photo, lists, ratings, reviews, diary, goals, roll history, blocks, push addresses and import records are permanently deleted right away, and you are taken off any lists shared with you. Server logs are kept only briefly. Reports you have made about other users are kept after you delete your account, without anything that identifies you, so that they can still be reviewed.
All connections to our servers use HTTPS. Access to your data is restricted so that only your signed-in account can read or change your library, apart from what you choose to show others (lists, reviews and, for mutual follows, your watch history), which they can read but never change. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and fix any issue promptly.
Shufflick isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
